Chapter 1
Shi Yu lay on the bed, completely still, like a salted fish without dreams—or even life.
If someone were to walk over and take a closer look, they would see that her eyes were open, fixed firmly on the ceiling, only blinking after a long while.
After a while, Shi Yu finally moved. She slowly raised her hand, covering her eyes with the back of it, then sighed wearily and muttered, "What the hell is this!"
The room was incredibly quiet, with only the sound of her breathing. The thick curtains blocked out the sunlight from outside. Shi Yu kept her hand over her eyes, continuing to lie motionless on the bed like a corpse.
Before long, someone pressed down on the door handle of the room. Since Shi Yu had locked the door from the inside, the attempt was unsuccessful. Shi Yu turned her head toward the door, and a woman's voice came from outside.
"Baby, it's Mom. Are you awake? Do you want something to eat? Your fever just went down. You need to eat before taking more medicine."
Shi Yu narrowed her eyes and sighed again. She raised her voice and said, "Mom, I'm still a bit sleepy. I'll eat later."
She had too much to process right now and had no intention of getting up from the bed anytime soon—nor was she ready to face the person outside the door, the one who was, in name, her mother.
The woman, hearing her voice, didn’t insist on her opening the door and just said, "Then remember to come down and eat when you wake up! Your dad made your favorite double-skin milk."
Shi Yu thought to herself: I don't like double-skin milk. But she replied, "Okay, Mom!"
The sound outside the door faded. Shi Yu sighed for the third time. She still didn’t move, continuing to lie there and digest everything that had happened.
Her name was Shi Yu, and somehow, she'd inexplicably transmigrated into another woman named "Shi Yu." This Shi Yu was a character from a cliché romance novel—a villainous supporting character who stirred up trouble and eventually caused her own downfall.
Shi Yu vaguely remembered that she had originally left an awards ceremony and was on her way home when she got into a car accident. When she woke up, she found herself here, with a strange new set of memories and the plot of a novel in her head.
In the book, the Shi family was one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Feng City. The original Shi Yu was the Shi family's only daughter. When she was born, her parents were busy building their business empire and had little time for her, which led to her growing up spoiled and arrogant.
But she wasn’t actually the real daughter of the Shi family. She was a fake heiress. When the Shi parents discovered the truth, they found their biological daughter, who turned out to be the novel’s protagonist.
The kind-hearted Shi parents decided to keep both daughters and treat them equally as part of the Shi family. Unfortunately, the original Shi Yu was an ungrateful fool who, as if possessed, kept making trouble for the protagonist, eventually ruining herself in the process. After her disgrace, she was kicked out of the family, attacked by her enemies, and ended up dying tragically by suicide.
Recalling the novel’s plot for the second time, Shi Yu’s mental reaction was: …The subway old man looking at his phone face.jpg.
What kind of brain-dead script is this?! No one but a level-ten fool would behave like that!
The Shi parents had raised Shi Yu for 21 years. Their emotional bond wouldn’t just disappear because she wasn’t biologically related to them. If she had simply behaved herself and lived peacefully with the protagonist, the Shi family wouldn’t have mistreated her. But no—she just had to go looking for trouble!
She got herself killed. But I won’t.
Shi Yu thought to herself that since she now knew the plot, there was no way she’d follow the original trajectory. She would avoid the risks and steer clear of the original’s disastrous path.
In her previous world, Shi Yu had been in a car accident. Judging from the current situation, she had probably died. Ending up in this melodramatic novel was essentially a second chance at life. Given the chance to live, no one would willingly choose death. Shi Yu decided to accept her new reality and live well.
After lying in bed like a corpse all afternoon, Shi Yu finally finished processing everything and realized that she was hungry. She got up from the bed, pressed the button to open the automatic curtains, and evening light slowly filtered into the room.
The long-lost light made her squint uncomfortably. She walked to the dressing table and looked at herself in the mirror.
The face in the mirror was both familiar and unfamiliar. The features were still hers—large, cat-like eyes full of life, a delicate face no larger than a palm, and skin as pale as snow. The difference was that this version of her looked younger, the angles of her face softened, and her jawline was less defined—making her look harmless and innocent.
Shi Yu clicked her tongue. She hadn’t expected the so-called "vicious supporting character" to have such a delicate and naïve-looking face. It was completely out of character.
Shi Yu didn’t dwell on it. She opened the wardrobe, pulled out some clothes, and got dressed. After checking her reflection in the mirror, she confirmed that her height was about the same as her previous self’s.
She opened the door and went downstairs to the dining room, where the Shi parents were sitting and eating. When they saw her coming down, their faces lit up with joy.
“Dad, Mom,” Shi Yu greeted them with a smile—the kind of affectionate smile a child would show their parents.
From the plot, Shi Yu knew that the original’s relationship with her parents was very good. If not for the events that followed, which left them completely disappointed in her, the Shi family would never have cast her out.
Shi Heyuan, her father, smiled brightly when he saw her. “Baby, you’re awake! Are you still feeling unwell? Did you check your temperature? Come sit down and eat! I’ll get you some porridge!”
This nearly fifty-year-old man, who was known in the business world for being stern and ruthless, was now just a doting father.
“Thank you, Dad.” Shi Yu sat down beside her mother.
Lian Guangya raised a hand to touch her forehead. “It seems like your fever’s gone down.”
“Mom, I’m fine now, don’t worry! I feel great!” Shi Yu even stood up and jumped in place to prove it.
“Okay, okay! I know you’re better—stop jumping!” Lian Guangya pulled her back down and fondly stroked her hair.
Surrounded by such loving parents, Shi Yu felt a pang in her chest. Her nose suddenly stung with emotion. In her previous life, Shi Yu had been an orphan. Her parents had died early, and she had been raised by her aunt, living under someone else’s roof.
“The porridge was made by Dad himself. Try it!” Shi Heyuan proudly placed the bowl in front of her.
Shi Yu lowered her head and took a sip of the porridge while chatting with her parents. The atmosphere at the table was warm and lively. Seeing her recover her energy, Shi Heyuan and Lian Guangya were finally relieved.
Her sudden illness had frightened her parents. Her fever had lasted for days, and the family doctor couldn’t find anything wrong except for the fever itself. The Shi parents had been so worried that they stayed home from work to take care of her.
After dinner, while the housekeeper cleaned the kitchen, Shi Yu sat with her parents in the living room watching TV, but her mind was elsewhere.
The original story started when the real and fake heiresses were swapped, but Shi Yu had arrived a year and a half earlier than that point. This unexplored gap gave her plenty of room to act.
One thing was certain: she couldn’t repeat the original’s mistakes. Step one was to deal with the scumbag boyfriend.
Shi Yu sat up straight. “Mom, Dad, I’m breaking up with Lu Jingye.”
Lian Guangya: “???”
Shi Heyuan: “???”
Lu Family
Lu Jingye stormed out of his father Lu Heng’s study, running a hand through his hair in frustration. His dad had just scolded him again, asking why he hadn’t shown any concern when Shi Yu was sick.
Lu Jingye was extremely irritated. He never liked that woman to begin with, and the more his dad pushed him, the more he disliked her and resisted the whole situation. But in order to secure the Shi family’s support, he had no choice but to keep up the charade with her.
Taking out his phone, he dialed a number. Lu Jingye swore that once his dad had finished swallowing up his second and third uncles’ shares, he’d dump Shi Yu without a second thought!
The call connected. Lu Jingye quickly masked his dark expression and was just about to speak when the person on the other end cut him off.
“Lu Jingye, I was just about to call you. Let’s break up!”
Lu Jingye’s breath hitched. He nearly choked and coughed violently.
“You—what did you just say…?”
Beep, beep, beep—
The call had already been disconnected.
Lu Jingye: “F***!”
